Boom Cards

This interactive, self-correcting, digital set of task cards helps kids practice

  • subitizing numbers 1-5 within a ten frame,

  • filling in equations for adding to 5.

A bit about Boom cards ...

You will be asked to sign into your account or create a free account. All purchased decks can be found in your library; you will not need to download, save, or print the resource.

Unplugged Coding Activities - Treasure Map - Use code cards to get the Superhero to the Treasure

This product is no longer free, but you can scroll down to find the most recent freebie of the day.

Unplugged Coding activity

Practice writing code to get the superhero to the treasure. Use the direction code cards to describe the path the superhero needs to take to follow the route on the map. If any steps (or groups of steps) are repeated, use the loop cards. There are many ways to describe the correct path, but try to use as few cards as possible! Once your code cards are laid out, see if someone else can follow your directions from the superhero to the treasure – and not fall off the path!

This set comes with:

  • 4 unique maps with space to lay out the code cards
  • 72 direction cards (36 use words; 36 use arrows)
  • 8 loop cards
  • 1 blank map to draw your own path
  • Answer key with a suggested set of direction for the first map

Day 5

(There was nothing new for day 4. I'll have new tips and a freebie of the day almost every day during this 15 day window, but I'll let you catch a break once in a while ;). )

Picture puzzle

This picture puzzle set is a fun way for students to practice the following skills:

  • addition (within 40)
  • subtraction (within 30)

For the addition puzzle, students will first solve the problems using ten frames and fill in the blank equation boxes, then find the pictures with the correct answer for each space to construct the puzzle.

This helps reduce the risk of kids merely piecing the puzzle together without solving the problems first, but also makes this a self-correcting activity since the puzzle only fits together correctly when every answer is right.

The subtraction puzzle does not use ten frames; encourage students to use any method they choose to solve the problems.

For best results:

  • Print in color on cardstock paper and laminate the page. Then cut out the pieces along the grid lines.
  • Provide kids with their own ten frames and counting items so they can work out the problems in a hands-on way.

Subtracting within 10 using ten frames

Students will subtract numbers within 10 from ten frames.

This deck begins with practice instantly recognizing (subitizing) all numbers from 1-10 in a ten frame.

This lays a good foundation for subtraction, because once students can remove (subtract) items from the ten frame, they'll be able to see the answer "at a glace."

This deck includes moveable circles in ten frames so students can practice "hands-on" subtraction.

A mini video tutorial is included to demonstrate how to subtract using ten frames.

Day 7

Tip of the day

I'll be doing Facebook live videos this week (with prizes!) to:

  • walk you through the BYB site, (https://shop.buildyourbundle.com/#a_aid=RWL)
  • show you some of the actual resources that I've bought,
  • answer any questions that you may have about the sale, and
  • maybe even bring in a guest speaker or two from other curriculum companies to talk about their products in this sale.

I'll be giving away free Math courses at each live session this week, given at random to anyone who shows up live and participates in any way.

No purchase necessary to win a free Math course from me.

Come join us! :)

The first one will be Monday (5/11) at 11 a.m. EST (8 a.m. PST).
